Retina and Vitreous Associates of Kentucky is based in Lexington, Kentucky, but has satellite offices in several regions of the state. The practice sponsors a clinical fellowship jointly with the University of Kentucky. The senior members in the practice are mentioned in the publication "Best Doctors of America." The practice has as its mission to provide excellence not only in patient care, but in clinical research. State-of-the-art procedures are performed both in the clinic area and in the hospital and a prominent low vision service is featured. The group has participated in a number of National Eye Institute sponsored clinical trials and currently is involved in several pharmaceutical trials involving the treatment of choroidal neovascularization with macular degeneration. The practice is proud to partner with the Macula Vision Research Foundation to help present and future patients with macular degeneration and their family and friends.
Retina and Vitreous Associates of Kentucky is a subspecialty retinal practice that was founded in 1975 by William J. Wood, M.D. Dr. Wood, a native of Lexington, Kentucky, completed his education at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard before returning to Lexington and assuming directorship of the retina services at the University of Kentucky for a period of time. He was appointed Professor of Ophthalmology and currently serves as president of Retina and Vitreous Associates of Kentucky. Rick D. Isernhagen, M.D., a native of Oklahoma, completed his education with distinction at the University of Oklahoma, the Dean McGee Eye Institute and at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Harsha A. Sen, M.D., a native of North Carolina, completed his education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Virginia College of Medicine, at the Duke University Eye Center. Dr. Sen was director of the University of Kentucky Retina Service before joining Retina and Vitreous Associates of Kentucky. Thomas W. Stone, M.D., a native of New York, completed his education at Dartmouth College, the University of Buffalo, the Duke Eye Center where he completed his residency and chief residency, and at the Emory Eye Center.
