View 2007-2008 Meeting Schedule
MVRF Executive Director Lea Bramnick gave an overview of the history and mission of the organization. Bramnick emphasized the importance of organizations such as the MVRF in disseminating the latest information, helping those affected by the disease lead their fullest possible lives and in raising funds to find a cure.
Dr. Sunir Garg and Dr. Joseph Maguire were on hand to give a presentation about the latest research and treatment strategies for macular degeneration. Garg and Maguire informed the attentive and lively audience about the recent body of research and emerging information about treatments and diagnosis for macular degeneration. Once complete, they turned it over to the audience for a Q&A session which the audience was very active in.
A very special presentation that focused on the depression that is often associated with a macular degeneration diagnosis was given by Dr. Barry Rovner M.D. Dr. Rovner addressed the emotional roller coaster that many patients experience when they are diagnosed with macular degeneration and how that experience can be made easier, both for patients and their loved ones.
Also on hand was Mary Betty Roeder, who presented a fantastic talk about her first-hand account of living with macular degeneration and how to not only live, but live well with the disease. Equal parts information and inspiration, Mary's talk was well received by the appreciative audience.

A packed auditorium enthusiastically thanked Drs. Garg and Maguire for exceptional presentations. People remarked that they were finally able to understand their disease for the first time.
Dr. Scott Edmonds discussed the value of and the life changing possibilities with a low vision evaluation and the proper use of low vision aids.
The final speaker, Mary Betty Roeder, talked about how she lives successfully with her macular degeneration making her legally blind. She spoke of her many varied activities and busy lifestyle, including playing social and duplicate bridge and holding family celebrations in her own home. Her energy and enthusiasm was very inspirational to the crowd.
