There was a large and eager audience on hand October 13 at the Princeton Senior Resource Center for a seminar about macular degeneration. The Delaware Valley Retina Associates partnered with the Macula Vision Research Foundation (MVRF) to relay this information to those living with macular degeneration, as well as their family and friends. The enthusiastic crowd indicated that this large population was eager for information.

Lea Bramnick, Executive Director, MVRF was on hand to talk about the mission of the MVRF. She explained that the organization's mission is to fund research into the cause, prevention, treatment and ultimately the cure for macular degeneration. Bramnick also explained that one hundred percent of all dollars raised go toward this goal, made possible by the fact that the organization is entirely underwritten for all administrative expenses.

The audience listened to Jeffrey Lipkowitz, M.D. and Darma le, M.D. talk about the latest information on research and treatments for macular degeneration. This session was followed by a lively audience Q&A. Mary Betty Roeder took the stage to present "Macular Degeneration – Diagnosis, Depression and Rising Above It." She took the audience through the process that patients, their families and their friends experience, exploring the psychological aspects that often accompany a diagnosis.

Roeder remained on stage and moved seamlessly into a discussion of her own experiences with macular degeneration, how it has affected her life and how she has learned to cope and thrive with it.
